KWICKCAGE
IS A PLASTIC SUPPORT CLIP FOR RESIDENTIAL FOOTINGS
WHOSE FUNCTION IS TO SUPPORT AND POSITION REINFORCING
MATERIAL IN CONCRETE STRIP FOOTINGS.
It can support two layers of reinforcing material
allowing for industrystandard concrete cover.
KwickCage is made from reconstituted high impactstyrene
chosen for its qualities in rigidity, durability,
light weight and it’s resistance to chemicals
and corrosion.
CONSISTING OF SEVERAL COMPONENTS KWICKCAGE HAS
BEEN SPECIALLY DESIGNED TO COVER VARIOUS WIDTHS
&DEPTHS OF FOOTING TRENCHES AND CAN SUPPORT
8, 11 &12mm REINFORCING MATERIAL.
• TOP RAIL
Clips onto the bottom rail once the lower row
ofreinforing material is in place. It provides
the necessary concrete cover from the top of
the trenchto the top of the reinforcing material.
Moulded clips maintain the position of the reinforcing
material.
• BOTTOM RAIL
The bottom support is used for the lower level
ofreinforcing and provides the necessary concrete
cover from the bottom of the footing trench
to thebottom of the reinforcing material. The
moulded clipsholds the reinforcing material
in position.
• EXTENSIONS
If required, two extensions are used, one on
each side of the bottom rail to provide a 100mm
extension when footing trench depths vary from
site to site or as required by an engineer

KWICKCAGE ASSEMBLY

A reinforcing cage can be easily assembled using
the Kwickcage by
pushing the reinforcing material into the moulded
clips. A bottom Layer of reinforcing material
is placed into the bottom rail of the Kwickcage. The
Kwickcages are spaced at a predetermined distance
along therein forcing material (approx: 1 metre
apart), then the top of the Kwickcage is clipped
into the bottom rail. The
components can then be placed into the footing
trench and the top layer of reinforcing material
can then be clipped into place forming a reinforcing
cage. Trench Mesh or Rods can be used. The moulded
base of the Kwickcage eliminates the need to
chair the reinforcing cage in the footing. The
assembly of Kwickcage can be done outside the
trench and the entire unit can then be lifted
into position.
KWICKCAGE HANDLING AND STORAGE
Kwickcage components should be contained in
cardboard boxes or plastic bags and stored off
the ground or floor on pallets. Storage must
be in a dry area preferably in the shade to
minimise exposure of the material to the sun.
No additional care is needed in handling the
Kwickcage components as they have no sharp edges,
are light and hard to damage if dropped from
a height.
Whilst handling the plastic, Kwickcage poses
no problems, but it would be prudent to wear
suitable safety gloves when handling the reinforcing
material during the assembly of the footing
cage.
KWICKCAGE TESTING
Tests were carried out in the structural labarotory
at the University of Newcastle. The tests were
conducted by Goran Simundic BE, ME, MIE Aust,
CP Eng Laboratory Manager and Laurie Walker,
Technical Officer. The aim of the testing programs
was to show that the presence of the Kwickcage
plastic reinforcing clip in the zone of maximum
bending moment is not going to cause early cracking
of the concrete beam. Six reinforced concrete
footing beams were built. Three of which were
built using the Kwickcage System and the other
three were built using conventional methods
(bar chairs, stirrups and tie wire). The beams
were tested under load conditions and the conclusion
is that the presence of the Kwickcage plastic
reinforcing clip did not cause any early cracking
of the concrete footing beams. A summary of
the cracking and loads is available upon request.
KWICKCAGE QUALITY
KwickCage is injection moulded from reconstituted
high impact styrene. High impact styrene was
chosen for its qualities in rigidity, durability,
lightweight and its resistance to chemicals
and corrosion.
KWICKCAGE is manufactured under
the Australian Quality Standard IS09002
